1 Networking Basics

When aiming to utilize your alumni network, start with the basics of networking. This involves updating your LinkedIn profile, joining alumni groups, and attending events. Your goal is to be visible and active within your alumni community. Engage with content shared by your peers, offer your own insights on industry trends, and don't hesitate to reach out for advice or to share opportunities. Remember, networking is about building mutually beneficial relationships, so approach each interaction with the mindset of how you can provide value to others as well.

In platforms like LinkedIn you need to "give" before you "get".Its interesting that Technology companies on the whole are actually very poor at leveraging social networking on LinkedIn. I think part of this is due to :1) The people who control the budgets to pay for Business or Sales Navigator licences don't actually use LinkedIn themselves and they certainly don't understand its benefits.2) Expecting your customer facing staff to become Wi-Fi repeaters for Marketing material. No appreciation of staff "personal branding" and consultative selling of their knowledge and expertise. My advice is if you are interested in getting better at networking on LinkedIn...persuade your employer to pay for Business Premium.

2 Mentorship Value

Seeking mentorship from alumni who have established themselves in product marketing can be incredibly beneficial. These individuals have navigated the path you're on and can provide guidance, support, and critical feedback. To find a mentor, participate in alumni events and look for individuals whose career trajectory aligns with your aspirations. Approach them with respect for their time and expertise, and be clear about what you're hoping to learn from them. A good mentor can not only help you refine your skills but also introduce you to other professionals in the field.

This can lead to stronger relationships and potential career opportunities as you're actively engaging with the network in a meaningful way.
