As a DEI and wellness professional, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of mindfulness in the workplace. A standout example of its impact is Aetna's mindfulness program, which has not only boosted productivity by an astonishing $3,000 per employee but also slashed stress levels by 28%. Additionally, this program has led to a remarkable saving of $2,000 per employee in healthcare costs.Aetna's initiative, involving meditation and yoga, has empowered more than a quarter of its 50,000 employees to take short breaks to center themselves, demonstrating the profound benefits of mindfulness practices in reducing stress and enhancing overall employee well-being.At Harmonna Inclusive Wellbeing, LLC, we commend Aetna's efforts and take it a step further. We believe in addressing stress not just mentally but physically, through the body. That's why, alongside mindfulness, we educate on the power of somatic exercises—practices designed to help discharge stress from the body, complementing the mental and emotional benefits of mindfulness.Imagine a workplace where employees are not only equipped with mindfulness tools to navigate stress but also have access to somatic exercises to release it physically. This holistic approach ensures that stress is tackled comprehensively, leading to a healthier, more productive workforce. As organizations continue to recognize the importance of employee wellness, integrating mindfulness and somatic exercises into the workplace culture becomes not just an option but a necessity. Let's transform our workplaces into environments that nurture not just the minds but the bodies of every employee, paving the way for true wellness and productivity. Are you ready to elevate your organization's approach to wellness? Reach out to learn how Harmonna Inclusive Wellbeing, LLC can guide you in integrating mindfulness and somatic exercises into your workplace wellness strategy.#Mindfulness #WorkplaceWellness #SomaticExercises #DEI #Productivity #Harmonna

Inspiring Corporate Wellness Through Meditation: Reflections on Facilitating a Workshop for 500+ ProfessionalsRecently, I had the privilege of leading a meditation workshop for over 500 working professionals, all gathered virtually on Zoom. It was an incredible experience to witness so many individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to explore the practice of meditation and its profound benefits. In today's fast-paced corporate world, stress and burnout have become all too common. As a firm believer in the power of mindfulness and meditation, I am deeply passionate about bringing these practices into corporate environments to support employee well-being and productivity.During the workshop, we delved into various meditation techniques designed to cultivate inner peace, clarity of mind, and resilience in the face of challenges. From breath-focused meditation to body scans and loving-kindness practices, participants were provided with a toolkit to navigate the demands of their professional lives with greater ease and equanimity. The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to pause, reflect, and recharge amidst their busy schedules. Witnessing the transformative impact of meditation on individuals' lives reaffirmed my belief in the importance of incorporating mindfulness practices into corporate wellness initiatives. As we move forward, I am inspired to continue partnering with organizations to introduce meditation programs that foster a culture of well-being and compassion in the workplace. By prioritizing the mental and emotional health of employees, companies not only cultivate a more positive and supportive work environment but also unlock untapped potential for creativity, innovation, and success.I invite fellow professionals and corporate leaders to join me on this journey of promoting holistic well-being in the workplace. Together, we can create healthier, happier, and more fulfilling work environments where individuals thrive both personally and professionally.#CorporateWellness #MindfulnessAtWork #Meditation #EmployeeWellBeing #WorkplaceWellness #mindfulleadership

Introducing yoga and wellness programs in the workplace can have numerous benefits and contribute to better productivity. Here are some ways in which yoga and wellness programs can positively impact employee productivity:1. Stress Reduction: Workplace stress can significantly impact productivity. Yoga and wellness programs provide employees with techniques to manage stress effectively. Through mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques, and physical postures, employees can reduce stress levels, enhance mental clarity, and improve focus, leading to increased productivity.2. Improved Physical Well-being: Regular yoga practice promotes physical well-being by increasing flexibility, strength, and stamina. When employees are physically fit, they experience fewer health issues, such as fatigue, back pain, and musculoskeletal problems. Enhanced physical well-being translates into increased energy levels and alertness, allowing employees to perform better in their roles.3. Mental Well-being and Emotional Balance: Yoga and wellness programs emphasise mental well-being and emotional balance. By incorporating meditation, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices, employees can develop resilience, manage their emotions effectively, and maintain a positive outlook. This promotes mental clarity, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, all of which contribute to improved productivity.4. Enhanced Focus and Concentration: Yoga and mindfulness practices improve focus and concentration. Through specific yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation, employees can sharpen their attention skills, reduce distractions, and stay present in their tasks. This heightened focus leads to increased efficiency and productivity.5. Team Building and Collaboration: Group yoga sessions and wellness programs provide an opportunity for employees to connect, build relationships, and foster a sense of community. Team-building activities within these programs encourage collaboration, communication, and a positive work environment. When employees feel connected and supported, they are more likely to work together effectively, resulting in improved productivity.6. Reduced Absenteeism and Improved Work-Life Balance: By promoting employee well-being, yoga and wellness programs can contribute to reduced absenteeism. When employees feel physically and mentally healthy, they are less likely to take sick leaves and more motivated to come to work. Additionally, these programs emphasise work-life balance, helping employees manage their time and responsibilities effectively, leading to increased productivity during working hours.7. Increased Employee Satisfaction and Engagement: Offering yoga and wellness programs demonstrates a company's commitment to employee well-being. This can boost employee satisfaction and engagement levels. When employees feel valued and supported, they are more likely to be motivated, loyal, and productive.#wellness #mindfulness #yoga

I couldn’t agree more.#mindfulness, #resilience or other #workplacewellness programmes are not going to compensate for inhumane working environments and toxic cultures. Resilience training is not a way to get your employees to “suck it up” more. If as an employer you are not prepared to take a long hard look at your culture and practices and make tangible changes towards meeting the human needs of your employees that we all share at work, you are simply going to make your employees more aware of how miserable their lot is. It is not a tick box exercise nor should be treated lightly.People are any organisation’s greatest asset. Look after them well and they will thrive and so will the business. If wellbeing programmes are provided with THIS intention - as an investment in your greatest, most cherished and valued asset, then everyone benefits. #resiliencecoach #wellbeingintheworkplace #wellnesscoach #equitablebusiness

Mark is right. Workplace wellness and mindfulness programs not substitutes for fixing the toxic cultures that people work in. I fully support these programs in that they help people individually (and collectively) often to realize that the environment they've been tolerating is intolerable by design and to proactively effect change or move on.I was on a thread once on Linked-In where the HR manager was about to hire someone they knew was hard to get along with and created a toxic work culture. They knew this in advance, but she said "I don't get paid to hire people that make friends, I get paid to hire people that get results, and he gets results."As long as that is the bias, that "hitting the numbers" is the only metric that matters and that employees are just fodder for the process, then don't sit back and wonder why productivity is down and turnover is up. From the article cited"The most effective way to improve wellbeing in healthcare workplaces included cutting back pointless bureaucratic procedures, reducing the length of meetings, improving staff rotas and giving employees a sense of psychological safety in their team."

Stop Press: Mindfulness doesn't make employees happy. As this article from the Guardian points out, using mindfulness as a cheap and convenient tool to improve workers’ well-being doesn’t necessarily work. In high pressured, under resourced, under paid, and poorly managed workplaces, well-being programmes are too often used to try to build workforce resilience, rather than tackle the 'unwell' organisational, resource, and management issues that generate occupational and personal stress. We shouldn’t be surprised that if employees become more mindful, they may then realise that their employers are not. It’s not hard to see how this may not improve ‘wellness’.Mindfulness needs to be cultivated at a leadership level – influencing policy and decision making and bringing focus, clarity, creativity, and compassion to the very fabric and running of organisations and society. We need to create working environments where workers can thrive, within a landscape of recognition, autonomy, mastery, and purpose. There is much evidence that mindfulness programmes help individuals connect with themselves, others, and the planet that cradles them. We know it has helped many people to manage personal stress, depression, pain, and manage change. It also helps people to connect, overcome blind spots, and better recognise and tackle social injustice. Mindful workplaces are vital and should be encouraged, but mindfulness isn’t simply a tool for employers to apply to a workforce to avoid tackling toxic working environments and conditions. People might just see through that. If we want mindful communities, it must be modelled by our leaders. Mindfulness needs to be at the heart of policy and decision making in government, business, and across societies. https://lnkd.in/dGW7-3bM
