My first 10 km Run!If someone would have told me in Sep 2021 that in 3 years time, I would have transformed myself into a better version and completed 10 kms run, I would have seriously laughed.What I have achieved on Sunday at Brisbane Marathon festival is nothing short of a miracle.In January 2024, I decided to start running as I had achieved my weight loss goal.A huge part of thanks should go to my trainer, Phil for helping me to understand a simple but effective running strategy which got me going.From able to run 10 minutes initially, to slowly improving my endurance, everyday was a learning.As days, weeks, months rolled by, I was able to run 1 km, 2 kms and just by the blink of eye, was able to run 5 kms nonstop.At that time, I made up my mind that I should try doing a 10 kms run and my trainer was wholeheartedly support of that.Before the event, I did some practice runs and was able to achieve the 10 kms in an hour. So I was fairly confident to achieve it in less than 60 minutes.At the race day, I was all excited and went to the start line. I didn’t know what to expect, a bit anxious.There was a huge crowd for the 10 kms run event. My trainer and I started at a brisk pace consistently achieving 5.5 minutes/kms.We just kept running and there was a huge crowd cheering everyone all along the way.Half way mark and we achieved it in 29 minutes. At that point, I was certain I can complete my 10 kms run in less than 60 minutes. Huge confidence booster..Closer to the finish line, the crowd cheering got louder and louder.. I was struggling at 9 km mark, but all those cheers helped me to push along.Finally, after all the practices, sweat, blood, tears and swearing, I was able to complete my first ever 10 kms run in 57 minutes and 21 seconds with an overall pace of 5.45 minutes/kms.What a great outcome and I am extremely proud that my efforts have been rewarded.A huge shout to my trainer, Phil and my wife, Sweata and daughter Rhea for their constant encouragement.So, what’s next?To train and participate in half marathonnextyear!
