It is encouraging to see more and more government's being taken to court for the inadequacy of their climate policies. We've seen children taking the US state of Montana to court and winning. #tHrIVEmind. Reflections on #ProfitJust as nature cannot survive without water, so commerce depends on profits to quench its natural thirst for capital. Used wisely, profits are a source of life and rejuvenation. Channelled effectively, profits have the potential to sustain a tropical forest, or to green a barren wasteland. But if the flow of fresh water through the pool is blocked, the water becomes stagnant and a breeding ground for disease.... / continuesRead the full reflection here: https://lnkd.in/eZkQirmQ

#tHrIVEmind. On #Love.Love, most of us feel, should be at the very heart of our thinking, our decision making, and our actions; in fact, at the heart of our living and being. But what is love? Love is understanding - understanding people and events in context; understanding that we are all, each in our own way, searching for meaning and truth; that we are all reservoirs of vast and varied potential; that we are all divine in nature, learning souls journeying back to their source; that all circ*mstances and events are soil and seeds to help us grow.... / continuesRead the full post here: https://lnkd.in/eM5tBSMf

#tHrIVEmind. Stepping UpIn this poem, written for my step-son, I celebrate the ability to be proactive and undefeated in the face of relentless challenges and prevailing pessimism. If all you read are headlines, when the nights are longAnd your days are crammed with deadlines, sometimesThe world can seem a gloomy place, a tired spaceOf fighting and blighting and struggling to make ends meet,Of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, and yetIn the midst of crises that show no signs of letting upI see you stepping up, I see you getting upAnd taking control of your life ...... / continuesRead the full poem here: https://lnkd.in/eAsTxQZp

History reminds us that we can and do make progress towards a healthier, more inclusive society. #OnThisDay (17 May):<> In 1749: British surgeon Edward Jenner was born and went onto create a vaccine for smallpox, saving hundreds of millions of lives<> In 1954: In a landmark case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional<> In 1996: Megan's Law was enacted in the U.S., which required that law-enforcement officials notify local schools, day-care centres, and residents of the presence of registered sex offenders in their communities.<> In 2004: Massachusetts became the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage as it began issuing marriage licenses to gay couple

#tHrIVEmind. We should not be striving, but rather beingEastern philosophies like Buddhism say that our desire for achievement, our goal directedness, is the very reason for our discontent. We should not be striving, but rather being. It will not be easy, because the world is full of people and institutions trying to tell us what you should be achieving. It takes strength and courage to know when to follow their advice, and when to lead from our own inner knowing; when to bend and when to stand firm. Success, then, becomes the ability to remain true to ourselves. Success should ultimately be a measure of how well we have pursued the things we value most.... / continuesRead the full post: https://lnkd.in/eZJzrVcJ

#tHrIVEmind. I am an AfricanThis is one of my most popular poems. I think it resonates with so many people for three reasons: First, there is a lot that is wonderful and beautiful and unique about Africa and should be celebrated. Second, feeling a connection to#Africa– the land and its people – is something that goes very deep emotionally and psychologically. And third, being African is about a way of being - an attitude and a love forAfrica - rather than being born there, or living there, or having a certain skin colour.I am an AfricanNot because I was born thereBut because my heart beats with Africa’sI am an AfricanNot because my skin is blackBut because my mind is engaged by AfricaI am an AfricanNot because I live on its soilBut because my soul is at home in Africa... / continuesRead the full post and subscribe free for a daily dose of inspiration in the your inbox: https://lnkd.in/efhmXBCH
